Privacy

radioko works without accounts and without cookies of its own. This page lists everything that happens with data when you use the site.

Stored in your browser

Your favorites, the stations you played recently, the volume and the last station are saved in your browser's local storage, so they are there next time. They never leave your device; clearing your browser data deletes them.

Our server logs

Our web server writes an access log for each request: a shortened IP address (the last part of an IPv4 address is set to 0, an IPv6 address keeps only its first three groups), the time, the page without any query string, the host name of the page you came from, your browser's user agent, and your country as reported by Cloudflare. A separate error log may contain a full IP address when something goes wrong. We use the logs only to keep the site running and delete them after four weeks.

Player signals

When a station starts or fails to start, or when you report a broken stream, your browser tells us which station it was and what happened. We store that with the time and your country (as reported by Cloudflare), without your IP address and without a cookie. We use these counts to find broken streams and to see which stations are listened to.

Services involved

  • Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks; it processes your IP address to do so. It may set a strictly necessary security cookie when it has to check a visitor. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies.
  • Radio stations. When you play a station, your browser connects directly to the station's stream server, which sees your IP address. We do not pass the audio through our server. Station logos are copied to our server and shown from there, so viewing a page does not contact the stations.
  • Radio Browser. When you play a station, your browser tells Radio Browser that it was played (its terms ask directories to count plays). Radio Browser sees your IP address.
  • jsDelivr. For some stations (HLS streams outside Safari) your browser loads the player library hls.js from jsDelivr's network.

Advertising

radioko shows no ads at the moment. If that changes, this page will say exactly which ad services are used and how you can choose.
